STAYING IN FOR THE SUMMER
A belated but ENORMOUS thank you must go to all the fantastic acts, DJs, barbecuers, bar-staff, roof dogs and (of course) punters who made last week’s Great Indoors II festival such a special day. Couldn’t make it? (What were you thinking?) It sort of looked a bit like this…
Amazing. Right? I’m just emailing Mr Manik with my idea for a a barn-storming rap-rock Smiths cover: “Manik on the streets of London, Manik on the Streets of Birmingham…” see you all in the charts…
I’ve had a couple of requests to put up the programme from last week’s show. Please find the files below. Print them out, crank up the stereo, spill some drinks everywhere and start grilling a LOT of food to re-live the magic of The Great Indoors from the comfort of your own sofa…
Thank you again friends, roll on next year, eh?
EXE APPEAL
Thanks to everyone who came down to the Freakscene Christmas party in the Cavern last week. It was, as if this needs saying, the very best of times: great friends, great bands, green drinks. Oh, and we very nearly won the club in a nerve-jangling pinball death match. Next year, next year… Speaking of next year, everyone should make it a compulsory NY resolution to visit The Cavern in its twentieth anniversary year (twenty years, ridiculous, it makes me feel 20 whenever I’m there). Until you do enjoy this footage of The Winter Olympics big band featuring Ben and Pippa taken by exciting Russian director ‘Ivan Osikin’.
THE TRUTH IS IN HERE
Death rays from above, headbanging aliens, slightly more nudity than is strictly necessary… enough about this weekend, let’s talk about the new Chris Hunneysett animation for The Winter Olympics’ song They Launched a Probe.
Literally, amazing.
The London Olympics is just two years away. The Winter Olympics? Less than a week. The Great Indoors festival kicks off at The Brixton Windmill at 2pm on Sunday August 1. The Great Outdoors single is available on iTunes, eMusic, Spotify (not as good as buying it) and Amazon on Monday August 2. Here’s a sneaky peak at its lo-fidelity, hi-contrast, massive hair video. Enjoy…
TV PARTY TONIGHT
So it’s very nearly here. After four years of painstaking preparation, leg-breaking training and toil The 2010 Winter Olympics kick-off (or is it puck-off?) next week.
Serendipitously, that’s exactly when The Winter Olympics new record The Winter Olympics II explodes into online stores everywhere. Whatever you’re supposed to be doing on the morning of Monday February the eighth, why not spare a minute to slide along to iTunes, eMusic, Amazon or Nokia Music (no me neither) and download yourself Attention All Departments and They Launched a Probe? If one of you could start up one of those ‘download the winter olympics and get them to number one!!!!!!! ;-)’ groups on facebook, that would be cool too. Cheers.
Can’t wait ‘til next week? Us neither, so we’re having a TV party tonight, and giving you your first chance to hear the new songs in these two ‘astonishing’ short films. Enjoy!
THEY LAUNCHED A PROBE
ATTENTION ALL DEPARTMENTS
The deluxe edition actual CD of The Winter Olympics II will be in Rough Trade and other good record stores this Spring, but honestly, who can wait that long?
Thanks, as always, for all your support. We hope you like the new songs as much as we do, and are prepared to forgive us the shonky nature of the videos. Anyone wanting to take the movie directing job off our hands, should get in touch at the usual address (please).
A big, big, love
The Winter Olympics x
