BACKSTREETS: BACK TO SCHOOL SPECIAL
Hi everyone, what are you giving up for New Year? Us? Hope. Only joking. No New Year’s resolutions here, we’re saving our energy for a New Year’s REVOLUTION at The Backstreets Back to School special at the breath-takingly brilliant Brixton Windmill on Friday 7 January 2011.
Now, I can hear you grumbling from here. “But Wag, why on Earth would we want to go out in January? It’s cold, and we’re supposed to be being good”. Well, we’re all supposed to be being good, and that’s why the Back to School special is always one of the best nights out that four pounds can buy you. You’ve been back at work for a week and everything’s terrible. Time to give up giving up and start getting going…
We’re very lucky this year because we absolutely love all of The Back to School class of 2011. As well as us, your favourite Backstreets boys, the night is headlined by the righteously rocking Priscillas and sees sets from boisterous Brighton-ites Deadbeat Descendant, our excellent pals the devastating Damn Vandals and the nearly popular Backstreets’ drunken djs.
You can buy tickets for £4 in advance from wegottickets. Hurry up, there’s only limited numbers left!
Here’s the Facebook page for the show. Tell us you’re coming!
Perfect!

THE GREAT OUT-TOURS (OXFORD)

People of Britain. Lock up your Little Chefs and batten down your bitter pumps, the Winter Olympics touring party is coming to a town near you.

That’s right, in support of our exciting new record, ‘The Great Outdoors’ (have you bought it yet? It’s on iTunes, Amazon and eMusic) your Winter Olympics are embarking on a string of very special straight-after-work-on-a-Friday-night getting-on-a-bus-and-going-somewhere-noone-knows-your-name rock shows.

The first show of the ‘Great Out-Tours’ series is on Friday 13th of AUGUST (that’s next Friday) in historic Oxford, home of Morse and Swervedriver.

 Tours!

If you would like The Winter Olympics to come to your town too drop us a line at thewinterolympicsband@googlemail.com. We’ll play pretty much anywhere, but remember, it’s got to be a Friday night and it’s got to be straight after work.
Here are the details for the Oxford gig:

THE OXFORD WHEATSHEAF
129 High Street, Oxford,
Oxfordshire, OX1 4DF

The Winter Olympics are on at about eight thirty. We’ll be playing with The Dead Jerichos and are hoping to hook up with our great rock mates Alphabet Backwards (who were amazing at the Great Indoors festival last weekend). You should come too.

For those of you from London who want to come along (and you should, it’s going to be amazing) The Winter Olympics’ Mr Ten Percent Jimmy Ketchup is planning a coach trip on ‘The Oxford Tube’. It’s dirt-cheap, runs all night, and coming back from a rock show on it makes you feel a bit like you’re in Def Leppard. Email James at jimmyketchup@gmail.com and he’ll give you details. He’s very friendly and there should be a good few of us going…

See you there then.

We received some complaints from our Canadian cousins this week, upset that the latest Winter Olympics’ flyer was ‘backing the wrong team’. Not wanting to start a hockey fight I have amended the offending jerseys.
Remember though guys, it’s not where you’re from, it’s where you’re at. And where you should be at is The Windmill in Brixton this Friday night: four brilliant bands, stupidly drunk DJs, the church of merch, a ruddy great dog on the roof. Come on over, we’ll buy you a drink!

BACK TO BACKSTREETS

Thanks everyone for coming out on Tuesday night and helping us put the ‘Kill’, ‘Burn’ and ‘Good’ in ‘Kilburn Good Ship’. It was an amazing night, and most of that is down to you lot.

I hope you liked the new light show, I know you loved the 2010 Church of Merch and I wonder what you’re doing next Friday night (March the 5th). Why’s that? Well your Winter Olympics are returning to their spiritual home: Backstreets at the Windmill in Brixton (putting the ‘Wind’ up the Windmill anyone?) for another great night of late night shopping proper party rocking. Also on the bill are hotly-tipped flamencobilly psyche-rockers The Bridport Dagger, southern-rawk gentlemen Motel Tijuana and garage punks the Jukebox Leans. It’s embarrassingly cheap in and we’ll buy you a pint if you turn up…

You can get advance tickets for £4 from not-at-all-evil ticket dealers wegottickets by clicking here.

In a further attempt to convince you to come we made a flyer. Realising it appeared to be advertising a fairly specialist Backstreets night, we hastily made another. Both are attached here, take your pick which one you prefer:

Backstreets is back, alright?

or perhaps:

Curls, Curls, Curls

Hope to see you there friends

Buses from Brixton
If you don’t fancy the excercise theres lots of buses that run up the hill (mostly from the bus stop outside Woolworths and KFC after you come out of the tube station.
