STAYING IN FOR THE SUMMER
A belated but ENORMOUS thank you must go to all the fantastic acts, DJs, barbecuers, bar-staff, roof dogs and (of course) punters who made last week’s Great Indoors II festival such a special day. Couldn’t make it? (What were you thinking?) It sort of looked a bit like this…
Amazing. Right? I’m just emailing Mr Manik with my idea for a a barn-storming rap-rock Smiths cover: “Manik on the streets of London, Manik on the Streets of Birmingham…” see you all in the charts…
I’ve had a couple of requests to put up the programme from last week’s show. Please find the files below. Print them out, crank up the stereo, spill some drinks everywhere and start grilling a LOT of food to re-live the magic of The Great Indoors from the comfort of your own sofa…
Thank you again friends, roll on next year, eh?
WORD UP
Good news everybody! Front page news in fact. Your Winter Olympics are taking the nation’s newsstands by storm…
If you find yourself in Smiths at any time in the next few weeks, have a squint at the FREE CD on the cover of this month’s excellent Word magazine. Down at the bottom, nestling neatly next to Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, him out of Travis and the man from Maximo Park is us. Amazing!
Take the mag home (buy it first) and you can hear the band handing Badly Drawn Boy his hat playing Feeling European, our debut single from The Winter Olympics I EP.
Now we realise that the bottom left hand corner of Word magazine isn’t quite ‘being on the cover of Forbes magazine, smiling next to Oprah and the Queen’, but, really, who honestly wants to do that? We’re massively excited and honoured to be up there frowning next to Mavis Staples and The Orchids thanks, and encourage you all to run to the newsagent and buy as many copies as you can carry.
DOWNTOWN (WHERE ALL THE LIGHTS ARE BRIGHT)
Hey! Did we ever play you this slinky downtempo remix of Feeling European by our friends Downtown Loop? It’s sexy, no?
