THE EARLY SHOW
Hi everyone, next week is official Winter Olympics week. There will be street parties, a torch relay (bring batteries) and your boss says you can work from home because the tube’s going to be a nightmare.
That should give you plenty of time to learn the words to our smash-hit new single I Prefer The Early Stuff which is released by Freakscene Records next Monday 28 May on download through (deep breath) iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, Xbox Live, Rhapsody, Google Play (sounds like a condom brand), Simfy, Deezer, Nokia Music and (whisper it) Tesco. Me? I’m definitely getting my copy from Deezer.
Want to try before you buy? Fine. You can hear the song that XFM’s John Kennedy called “The entire rock and roll dream encapsulated in three and a half minutes” right here on The Winter Olympics Soundcloud (though, obviously, this isn’t quite as good as buying it).
‘The Early Stuff’ will also be released on limited edition Oyster card and travelcard holder (for the super commuter) via The Winter Olympics Church of Merch and at our completely FREE launch party at the Wheelbarrow in Camden (55 Camden High Street, London) on Wednesday 30 May at 7.30PM.
Our special guests on the night will be the magnificent Muncie Girls and the don’t-let-me-down-gently sounds of DJ Massive Disappointment from Art Brut. If that’s not enough excitement for you, there’s free wi-fi, hot pies and discounted Jägerbombs all night. Here’s the flyer:

SINGLES NIGHT
Hi everyone. How are you? It seems an age since we last spoke. How long does it have to be between gigs before we can call it a comeback?
I’m delighted to say that we have news for you. On Monday 28 May your Winter Olympics will be releasing a BRAND NEW SINGLE (our first for our friends at Freakscene Records) called I Prefer The Early Stuff.
Released on download and (yes) Oyster Card ‘Early Stuff’ is taken from the patiently-awaited album Profit and Loss which ’drops’ on Monday 1 October and will be available on vinyl/cd/download and (of course) as a book. The song, and this probably goes without saying, is about girls and bands. Who has time to think about anything else?
To celebrate the release we will be throwing a COMPLETELY FREE killer party at The Wheelbarrow in Camden on Wednesday 30 May. We’re playing live with your soon-to-be new favourite band Muncie Girls. After the bands DJ Massive Disappointment from Art Brut will be letting us down gently on the wheels of steel; hot pies and jagerbombs are punishingly cheap all night. Oh yes. And it’s FREE!

SINGLE DETAILS
I Prefer The Early Stuff is released on 28 May 2012 on Freakscene Records. You will be able to get it on iTunes, eMusic, Amazon and from our website. We will be reminding you about this. The single will also be available on limited edition Oyster card with extra special features from the Church of Merch and at the Wheelbarrow show.
There are two versions of the song. A kiddie-friendly no swearing radio edit, and a Kidderminster-friendly fruity version. Both were recorded behind the Tesco and at (the other) Abbey Road, Croydon by producer Paul of Sound. They were mastered by ‘deadly’ Doug Shearer at The Pierce Rooms in Hammersmith. Doug’s previous credits include Venom, Jamelia and the Fall. That’s pretty much what the record’s supposed to sound like.

AMAZING SCENES AT THE WHEELBARROW By Kate Hallé
We must say a massive thank you to everyone who came out and helped us launch the ‘Nineties’ single on Wednesday at The Wheelbarrow in such style: The fans at the front, the fans at the back, the fans at the side. The guy who cried when he bought a tape, the guy who ‘only liked the early stuff’, everyone who said such lovely things and offered to buy us drinks. Thanks too to our almost-too-good rock colleagues Delta/Alaska, Alphabet Backwards and DJs Johnny Joy Machine and Mark Rostron of the Winter Olympics Elite Disco Unit. We had a brilliant time, and hope you did too. Fortunately, the amazing Kate Hallé was on hand to capture the action. You can see more of her shots here. Good isn’t she?
