NEW SINGLE OUT NOW!

The new single by The Winter Olympics: I Miss The Nineties/This Is The Fourth Time I’ve Been In Your House is out now on download, CD and cassette single.

The iTunes shop is fully stocked and I’ve got more singles under my bed than Charlie Sheen. Why not buy one? (The only acceptable answer to this is, “because I am an idiot”.)

Want an actual physical copy of the songs? Maybe on hand-numbered, limited edition CD, or perhaps embarrassingly-attractive cassette single (with free download card) and full-colour art by exciting young British artist Lottie White?

CLICK HERE TO BUY THE CD OR TAPE FROM THE CHURCH OF MERCH

Not keen on buying things off the internet? Come down to The Wheelbarrow in Camden on Wednesday 16 March for our ABSOLUTELY FREE launch party and give us cash. Actually, you should come to the party anyway. Here’s a Facebook page with all the details, we’ve got an amazing line-up featuring us, Alphabet Backwards, Gold Future Joy Machine DJs, top secret special guests, reasonably priced drinks and a pie bar. All for NO MONEY AT ALL (so you can afford to buy our new record, right).

This last week people have been saying all sorts of amazing things about the single. Shout4Music magazine claimed:

Let’s get it out there right at the start – this should be the song of the summer… If you’re an ageing indie kid then this is possibly the song of your life. 9/10

While Room Thirteen magazine went with the slightly-more-concise:

Both tracks are brilliant

and gave it a ten. Still not convinced? Check out this interview we did with Kenneth John Porteous of the ever-excellent Loud Horizon magazine, which features this quote:

Martin has always maintained that his ultimate musical goal is for the band to appear on Top of the Pops. There’s only one of those a year now, so it looks like we’re going to have to come up with a Christmas Number one. That can’t be hard, right?

or the preposterously good video for I Miss the Nineties directed by Chris Hemming and produced by Russ Mclean of Passion Pictures that’s been causing certain sections of the blogosphere to scream:

Warning - he looks like he sort of hipster you’d want to kick in the plums.

Yeah, cheers.

Anyway, just to re-cap. The new record is OUT NOW. Six months of hard graft, six minutes of glory, £1.58. Bargain.

Thanks for all your support. If you have any trouble with the downloads, Church of Merch, or have any other customer service questions/song requests for Wednesday night, do drop us a line at band@thewinterolympicsband.com.

Cheers!

TV PARTY TONIGHT

So it’s very nearly here. After four years of painstaking preparation, leg-breaking training and toil The 2010 Winter Olympics kick-off (or is it puck-off?) next week.

Serendipitously, that’s exactly when The Winter Olympics new record The Winter Olympics II explodes into online stores everywhere. Whatever you’re supposed to be doing on the morning of Monday February the eighth, why not spare a minute to slide along to iTunes, eMusic, Amazon or Nokia Music (no me neither) and download yourself Attention All Departments and They Launched a Probe? If one of you could start up one of those ‘download the winter olympics and get them to number one!!!!!!! ;-)’ groups on facebook, that would be cool too. Cheers.

Can’t wait ‘til next week? Us neither, so we’re having a TV party tonight, and giving you your first chance to hear the new songs in these two ‘astonishing’ short films. Enjoy!

THEY LAUNCHED A PROBE

ATTENTION ALL DEPARTMENTS

The deluxe edition actual CD of The Winter Olympics II will be in Rough Trade and other good record stores this Spring, but honestly, who can wait that long?

Thanks, as always, for all your support. We hope you like the new songs as much as we do, and are prepared to forgive us the shonky nature of the videos. Anyone wanting to take the movie directing job off our hands, should get in touch at the usual address (please).

A big, big, love

WE. ARE. BACK.

Evening everyone, how are you? How have you been? Where have we been?

Well asleep mostly. Ever since we got back from the AMAZING West Country Winter Os show in Exeter this New Year (thanks to everyone who came out, and double-thanks to Ben Emergency, Nat QT and Andy ‘Andy’ Mitchell for playing with us) I’ve been celebrating with a decidedly retro bout of the swine flu (I know, who knew you could still get that?) I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

What I would recommend is saving these two dates in February….

Monday 8 February 2010 - NEW WINTER OLYMPICS SINGLE

That’s right, bang on cue for the opening ceremony of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games (putting the punk in punctual, that’s us), we’re releasing our long-awaited double A side single The Winter Olympics II, featuring the songs Attention All Departments and They Launched a Probe. We’re going to try everything we can to make you buy a copy over the next few weeks, and really hope that you love the record as much as we do. Full exciting details next week.

Tuesday 23 February 2010 - THE WINTER OLYMPICS LIVE!

To celebrate the release of the new record, and Team GB’s success in the women’s skeleton and two-man bob at Vancouver 2010 (honestly, that’s worth a quid at the bookies) The Winter Olympics take to the stage in Kilburn, supporting their great mates Deer Park. There will be good friends, cold drinks and more brand new Winter Olympics merch than you ever thought imaginable. It would be great to see you. I’ll send you a flyer.

Anyway, thanks, as always, for all your incredible support and encouragement. We’ve got tonnes of exciting things lined up for 2010, and we’d love to take you along for the ride. The Winter Olympics is a lot less fun without you.

Lots of love

Behold the tough new Winter Olympics logo. Download it to your desktop, tipp-ex it on your textbooks, tattoo it on your hearts. Or arms, if you’re Marty or me. Whatever you do, start getting used to it, the Tim West designed ‘no fake snowflake’ will be turning up on the cover of our new record, and your new shirts, hats, mugs and pens before you know it…
