NEW SINGLE OUT NOW!
The new single by The Winter Olympics: I Miss The Nineties/This Is The Fourth Time I’ve Been In Your House is out now on download, CD and cassette single.
The iTunes shop is fully stocked and I’ve got more singles under my bed than Charlie Sheen. Why not buy one? (The only acceptable answer to this is, “because I am an idiot”.)

Not keen on buying things off the internet? Come down to The Wheelbarrow in Camden on Wednesday 16 March for our ABSOLUTELY FREE launch party and give us cash. Actually, you should come to the party anyway. Here’s a Facebook page with all the details, we’ve got an amazing line-up featuring us, Alphabet Backwards, Gold Future Joy Machine DJs, top secret special guests, reasonably priced drinks and a pie bar. All for NO MONEY AT ALL (so you can afford to buy our new record, right).
This last week people have been saying all sorts of amazing things about the single. Shout4Music magazine claimed:
Let’s get it out there right at the start – this should be the song of the summer… If you’re an ageing indie kid then this is possibly the song of your life. 9/10
While Room Thirteen magazine went with the slightly-more-concise:
Both tracks are brilliant
and gave it a ten. Still not convinced? Check out this interview we did with Kenneth John Porteous of the ever-excellent Loud Horizon magazine, which features this quote:
Martin has always maintained that his ultimate musical goal is for the band to appear on Top of the Pops. There’s only one of those a year now, so it looks like we’re going to have to come up with a Christmas Number one. That can’t be hard, right?
or the preposterously good video for I Miss the Nineties directed by Chris Hemming and produced by Russ Mclean of Passion Pictures that’s been causing certain sections of the blogosphere to scream:
Warning - he looks like he sort of hipster you’d want to kick in the plums.
Yeah, cheers.
Anyway, just to re-cap. The new record is OUT NOW. Six months of hard graft, six minutes of glory, £1.58. Bargain.
Thanks for all your support. If you have any trouble with the downloads, Church of Merch, or have any other customer service questions/song requests for Wednesday night, do drop us a line at band@thewinterolympicsband.com.
Cheers!
The Winter Olympics x
PRESS!

Hey everyone, fed up with The World Cup yet? The false hope, the horror, the not-quite-as-exciting-as-when-you-were-ten-ness of it all? Thought so. What better time, then, to remember The Winter Olympics fondly?
The actual, physical, ever-so sexy Winter Olympics II single (featuring Attention All Departments and They Launched a Probe) hits independent record stores this week, and the good people of the press have been saying nice things about it. Without wishing to blow our own trumpet too much (cue enormous massed choir of vuvezelas) have a read of some of these:
“Fronted by vocals that wouldn’t have sounded out of place within the years where new wave locked horns with Gothic tinged melancholy – TWO intertwine their throbbing disco-indebted rock with a Manic delivery that wont fail to grab your attention, all backed up by a crunching rock sound that references 30 years of guitar music in one swift blow – impressive stuff. Single of the month” Subba-cultcha magazine
“They’re going for triumphant transcendence through humorous, yet emotive fist-pumping arena-ready anthems, and you have to suspect that this may work out very well for them. The melody of second track They Launched a Probe hints at the potential for an emotional depth beyond most bands of this ilk. The sound is fantastic and the lyrics refreshingly different” Museic magaine
“…boy does this scrub up well… brash and shy at the same time, flashes of ironic electro campness and well-disguised self-loathing in one tasty package. ‘Ave it.” Rockbeatstone magazine
“a brilliant piece of dance-punk” Tunatheday magazine (Catch of the day)
I think what everyone is trying to say, is that if you haven’t bought The Winter Olympics II yet you absolutely should.
Don’t know where your nearest TWO stockist is? It’s Rough Trade East just off Brick Lane, but don’t worry. You can now buy Winter Olympics records, shirts, mugs, books, bags and lord knows what else at our VERY EXCITING AND COMPLETELY SECURE online store.
